Derby Days Picnic with Wonder

May 4th, 2012

April 28, 2012 - Royer Park was party to a wonderful picnic that included 8 Wonder explorers and their guides plus 2 adult supporters.  The weather was the most amazing partnered with the old growth trees of Royer Park in Roseville we were able to spend a pleasant day playing scavenger hunt games, eating, creating broomstick ponies that were used in a derby race.  The creativity and imagination that was shown during the creation of the broomstick ponies blew me away, the youth took such care and thought into each piece of the pony.  There was such a variety of different types of ponies including a unicorn and ones that had beautiful manes of ribbon and yarn.

American River Clean Up and CASA

May 4th, 2012

April 21, 2012 - The American River Clean up day on Saturday, April 21 with CASA of Sacramento was small but successful. We had 6 foster youth, 3 CASA’s, 1 adult supporter from CASA, 2 Connections for Youth board members and 2 of their children. It just happened to be the hottest day of the year so far but everyone dug up a lot of trash from the bushes and parking lots of Discover Park for 4 hours.

Indoor Rockclimbing and teenagers

May 4th, 2012

April 14, 2012 - I had the great pleasure of going to Granite Arch Indoor rock climbing with 7 youth.  We started off the morning with bouldering and warming up learning to how to follow the routes that are set up for climbers.  Once we got started, got the chalk bags attached to our belts we clipped into the climbing ropes and made it up, up, up the ropes.  Most of the youth made a triumph of climbing to the top of the wall and tapping the top bar or ringing the bell of glory.  It was a great time racing to the top of the wall with the youth, there was laughing, stretching, yelling, exhaustion and muscles shaking with pain from reaching for the goal.  I am excited to say that everyone had a great time and had a learning experience that will last a life time.
